the King of Malaysia pardoned Lee Fook Mun, alias Omar Iskandar Lee Abdullah, 58, who was sentenced to death for shooting accountant Linda Lee Good Yew, 52, after their cars collided in Kuala Lumpur in August 2000. Lee's death penalty was commuted to life imprisonment and he could be released in less than 10 years if he gets a one-third remission for good behaviour, reported China Press. He fired point blank into Madam Lee's car, killing her. Madam Lee, a mother of two daughters, died after a bullet went through the windscreen and hit her chest.
Several more shots were fired at random, sending motorists scurrying for cover. Lee, a property developer, was said to be driving under the influence of alcohol. Lee was initially convicted of culpable homicide and jailed eight years. On appeal by the prosecution, the Court of Appeal convicted Lee of murder and sentenced him to death in March 2005. His appeal against the capital punishment was dismissed by the Federal Court in June 2006. But Lee applied successfully for clemency from the king.
