The leader of the Democratici di Sinistra (Democratic Left, DS) parliamentary group Fabio Mussi condemned statements by far right politicians calling for the death penalty for the perpetrators of a horrific double murder in Novi Ligure. A mother and her twelve-year-old son were stabbed a number of times in their own home on February 23. The daughter, who said she managed to escape the attack, initially accused two Albanian immigrants of the murder. This sparked off comments by Alleanza Nazionale MP Marco Zacchera defining the perpetrators as a "band of Slavs" who are "genetically disposed towards such crimes," Mussi denounced. The DS parliamentary leader also accused other MPs from AN and the Lega Nord of making similar racist and xenophobic comments. Police are now accusing the sixteen-year-old daughter, Erika de Nardo, and her boyfriend Omar of the crime.
