the Mauritian Prime Minister, Navin Ramgoolam, returned from an official two day visit to Réunion, told media of being in favour of the introduction of the death penalty in Mauritius. According to the daily Le Défi, he took this position following the murder of Michaela Harte, an Irish citizen strangled on January 10 during his honey moon on Grand Gaube. « They will be punished most severely», Navin Ramgoolam said during a press conference at Pierrefonds airport, on the island of Saint-Pierre. He said that the death penalty should be applied to all people found guilty of murder. « The person who commits murder has not right to live» he added, repeating the words of the President of the Republic, Sir Anerood Jugnauth.
