The Military Appeal Court chaired by Justice Elly Turyamubona heard appeals by two UPDF [Uganda People's Defence Forces] soldiers sentenced to death in 2000.
Privates, Godfrey Nuwagaba of the 57th Battalion and Raphael Oyet of the 35th Battalion, were accused of shooting and killing fellow soldiers in different barracks.
Nuwagaba, 24, was found guilty of murder by the General Court Martial sitting at the Second Division headquarters in Mbarara of shooting and killing Private Simon Gamba on May 2, 1998 at Bulambaire Army detachment in Kasese district.
Oyet was sent to the gallows on February 21, 2000 by the army court because he was found guilty of killing three fellow soldiers, Sgt. Ben Lagoya and Privates Situma Wapakala and Peter Mutongwa.
Capt. Wilson Mwesigwa, the courts defence counsel, told the court that there were gross irregularities in the trial of the two soldiers.
