The Motherland Party (ANAP) decided that an amendment has to be made in the law and also a constitutional amendment has to be undertaken at the same time for abolishment of death penalty. The commission formed under the leadership of ANAP deputy group leader Beyhan Aslan to examine the proposal of the Democratic Left Party (DSP) regarding the abolishment of death penalty, completed its studies. The commission decided that an amendment has to be undertaken in the Constitution to abolish the death sentence. According to the plan, the proposal of law on the abolishment of death sentence will be prepared together with the Constitutional amendment. The Constitution will note in its provisions that heavy imprisonment has been foreseen instead of death penalty and this punishment won't be pardoned. Aslan will convey the decisions taken at the commission to DSP group and take their views.
The same day, Felicity Party (SP) administrators visited on Monday Democratic Left Party (DSP) and proposed formation of a commission related with the bill which foresees that death sentence should be commuted to life imprisonment.
