the new law giving Texas juries the option of sentencing convicted capital killers to life in prison without parole went into effect today.
Under the previous law, jurors in capital murder cases had two sentencing options: execution by lethal injection or life in prison with the possibility of parole after 40 years.
The new law removes any chance of parole in the event jurors chose a life sentence over execution.
