The newly-appointed Conservative Party shadow home secretary has sparked controversy by suggesting United Kingdom should bring back the death penalty.
David Davis, who took the post last week, said in a newspaper interview that he would favour execution by lethal injection for serial killers.
"I would bring back capital punishment for serial murderers," he told the Sunday Telegraph.
"I think under these circumstances, the intention is there. It is not a crime of passion. It is clearly pre-meditated and cold blooded," he said.
The Conservative Party swiftly stressed that Davis's view was personal, and not official policy.
