The People's Court in Vietnam's southern province of Long An sentenced to death Tran Thi Ngoc Yen, female, for trafficking heroin from Cambodia, the Tuoi Tre newspaper said. She was found guilty of involvement in a network that police said trafficked 8.75 kg (19 pounds) of heroin into Vietnam from neighbouring Cambodia between August 2000 and June 2002. Yen's husband and another member of the gang were jailed for life while two others received prison terms of between 12 and 15 years.
