The Portuguese weekly newspaper "Independente" revealed that UNITA leader Jonas Malheiro Savimbi was executed in cold blood.
Independente, which cites sources from European secret services, states that Savimbi was caught by surprise in his camp, dragged out of the tent and executed by soldiers of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) and by North Korean mercenaries, who had been following him in Moxico's bush in the east of Angola since the middle of 2001. The same source assured Independente that the Luanda orders were precise: when they find Savimbi, he should not be imprisoned.
The newspaper added that Savimbi was killed by seven bullets and with him died other high-ranking military officers who were with him in his group, among them Generals Numa and Sami and Brigadier Bull.
The newspaper added that the assistance of US satellites in locating UNITA's columns were indispensable, and that the role of the North Korean mercenaries was vital.
