The Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People's Court sentenced Zhang Chunyuan and Yang Fengyun to death for kidnapping. The two Sichuan Province natives kidnapped Zhang's 10-year-old cousin on September 30, 2003 and demanded a ransom of 50,000 yuan (US $6,024). The two men allegedly killed the boy for fear that the boy, if released, would recognize his cousin.
