The Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People's Court sentenced Gu Weiguo to death for robbery and murder. Gu, 34, reportedly plotted to rob some money from a relative of his girlfriend early in 2004 to get money to enjoy a good Spring Festival in his hometown. On January 18, he went to the restaurant opened by Zhang Junhui, his girlfriend's relative in Nanhui District with a knife. At midnight, he killed three members of the family and stole some money. Only the family's youngest son survived the tragedy.
