The Spanish delegation present at the international Yemen conference on Democracy, Human Rights and the Role of the International Criminal Court, concluded on Monday, delivered an appeal from Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar to Yemeni president Ali Abdulleh Saleh to spare the life of a Spanish citizen.
Nabil Manaqli Kosabati, of Syrian origin, is currently under a death sentence in Yemen for planning the murder of former prime minister Abdul Karim al Iryani.
Kosabati's execution has already been stayed twice, the last time in September following the intervention of the King of Spain, Juan Carlos II.
The new appeal was well-received by the Yemeni authorities, the delegation said.
