The state-run Bahar daily reported that a young prisoner named Hossein was sentenced to death. Hossein was charged with the murder of his friend Ali, during a football match in 1992. He had rejected the charges during the trial and insisted on his innocence. It was reported that the judge then summoned to court approximately 50 members of the victim's family and asked them to swear that Hossein had killed Ali. He was subsequently condemned to death on the basis of the "oath" taken by people, who by their own admission, never witnessed the alleged crime.
