The Supreme Court upheld the death sentence given to Duan Meerak, a 38-year-old woman, for possessing 70,000 speed pills in 1998. The court reduced the death sentence given to Duan Meerak's stepmother, Chamlong Nimpaen, 52, from life to 32 years and six months. The family's driver, Jaworn Saengworanuch, 37, who had been sentenced to death by the Appeal Court, was acquitted of all charges. Duan, Chamlong and her husband Rabiab Taemkhun, and the chauffeur, had been arrested in the Don Muang district on February 3, 1998. All denied the charges, but Chamlong pleaded guilty in court. Rabiab died whilst awaiting trial.
