The Supreme People's Court confirmed the death sentences handed down to He Aizhen and Chen Chun, peasants from Xinhua County in the Hunan Province. The two were condemned for drug trafficking in Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, in collusion with others, between November 1998 and April 2000. The Intermediate People's Court of Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, held a public trial of the case and gave its first-instance ruling on 27 October last year, sentencing He Aizhen and Chen Chun to death. They were executed immediately after the Supreme Court turned down their appeal.
