the Tawau High Court, in Malaysia, sentenced a 51-year-old man to death for murdering the lover of his former girlfriend with a lance. Ray B Solis was found guilty by High Court Judge John Ko Wai Seng on a charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the mandatory death sentence on conviction. Based on the facts of the case, Ray committed the crime at the home of the victim, Andres Sumigut Jamarolin, on March 14, 2009. He had gone to Andres’ home located 500 meters from his house and saw the latter watching television in the living room. He then returned home to take a lance and went back to the victim’s house to attack the latter with the weapon. He stabbed the victim with the lance in the stomach and fled. The victim then sought help from his girlfriend who was upstairs, and the latter called her younger sister to help send the victim to Kalabakan clinic. Andres was later transferred to Tawau Hospital but died of the injuries. Deputy public prosecutor Shukor Abu Bakar had called eleven prosecution witnesses to testify in the trial of Ray.
