The Tianjin People's Higher Court sentenced two security officers and three others to terms ranging from 13 years to a suspended death sentence for trying to place 44 falcons on a foreign-bound Air China flight, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.
"I don't think a death sentence is severe considering falcons are an endangered species and top of the list of 238 animals classified as receiving grade-two state protection," a State Forestation Bureau official said.
