The United Communist Party of India (UCPI) demanded execution "without any change" of the Supreme Court order sentencing to death the four accused in the 1991 Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. The former premier was killed by a woman suicide bomber in an attack blamed on ethnic Tamil rebels - a charge they denied. The four death row convicts were identified as Nalini, a woman, Murugan, Perarivalan and Chinna Santhan.
