The UN's human rights special rapporteur for Iraq, Andreas Mavrommatis, reported that on May 22 he had asked for "clarification and details" to the Iraqi government of allegations that 122 men had been executed between February 3 and March 9 of this year at the Abu Gharib prison near Baghdad. The Government replied that "the task was complicated and time-consuming, and insufficient time was given to respond in writing".
