The Yunnan Daily reported that the Intermediate People's Court in Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, southwest Yunnan Province, sentenced Yang Hongying, female, to death with two years reprieve, deprivation of political rights for life, and confiscation of all assets for stealing 114m yuan. According to the newspaper, Yang is a well-known singer, a Standing Committee member for the Dali Prefecture Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, member of the All-China Youth Federation, leader of the Prefecture National Song and Dancing Ensemble, and member of the Chinese Musician's Association. From 1998 to August 2000, she allegedly offered high interest and discounts to attract public money, the paper said.
