Thousands of Iranians demonstrated in Berlin against a visit by Iranian President Mohammad Khatami. Around 7,000 protesters marched through the German capital to the Brandenburg Gate while about 4,000 officers were on duty for Khatami's visit. Protester Dowlat Nowrovzi asked, "Why is the world and the German government so excited about supporting someone who has been responsible for the executions of political prisoners?"
