Three people were sentenced to death for the murder of a man named Mozammel Ali on September 6, 1996. The judge, SM Mujibur Rahman, handed down the death penalty to Sajid Ali, Ana Mia and Manik Mia. Two other accused Aftab Mia and Jamsid Mia were sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Tk 20,000 each.
