three Vietnamese were sentenced to death in two separate trials for murder and tax fraud. At a two-day trial, the Ho Chi Minh City's People's Court found two men in their 20s guilty of shooting dead one person and injuring several others during a failed robbery at a jewellery shop in the southern business capital. Their 11 accomplices were handed sentences from four to 18 years in prison.
The gang, many of whom were adolescents, attacked several buses and jewellery shops in southern Vietnam between August 2002 and their arrest in May 2004. In a separate trial, the same court handed a death sentence to Duong Quang Tri for tax fraud of up to six billion dong (382,000 dollars). His wife was imprisoned for 25 years.
