Twenty-eight people were executed over a two-day period for murder and other violent crimes after sentencing rallies in two mainland Chinese cities. Twenty men and two women, aged 19 to 54, were executed in the southwestern city of Chongqing after a rally at which the condemned were paraded publicly on October 30, China News Service said. The youngest person executed, Ye Changyong, 19, was convicted for killing a robbery victim from whom he stole just 33 yuan (HK$31). The figure includes the six gang members convicted of murder and other violent crimes executed on October 29 in Haikou, capital of the southern island province of Hainan. The Chongqing executions came one day after the city launched its "Twister No 10" anti-crime campaign, under which 2,000 people were arrested, China News Service said.
