Two brothers and their brother-in-law were sentenced to death by a district court for throwing acid on a housewife in south Surma in November 2002. Katai Mia, 38, Tera Mia, 40, and Mahtabuddin, 40, of Islampur Muzraipar village in south Surma were sentenced to death. Their 75-year old father Masaddar Ali was sentenced to life imprisonment. According to the prosecution, the accused threw acid through the open window on Shahana Begum, mother of 3 daughters, inflicting severe burn injuries on her body. The attack on the housewife was due to a dispute over property with her husband.
