Two Iraqi nationals were charged in Jordan with premeditated murder of a Kuwaiti student in August, the semiofficial Jordan Times newspaper reported.
The two Iraqis are identified as Haidar Jassem Khalaf and Ahmad Hamid, who fled to Syria after the killing of Majed Hathal, 30, a Kuwaiti student, at a private university 50 kilometres north of Amman on August 17. Jordanian authorities have demanded the extradition of Khalaf, who is currently under custody in Syria. Hamid is still at large in Syria.
The two Iraqis, if extradited, could be condemned to death in Jordan, where perpetrators of premeditated murder, rape and drug trafficking are subjected to death sentences.
Khalaf has reportedly confessed to Syrian police that he killed the Kuwaiti student with the help of Hamid over a financial dispute, Jordanian court sources said.
