Two members of a criminal gang who battered people to death with a hammer and robbed them of valuable items were executed in Beijing.
Li Jiwen, a native of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, and Zhang Yu, a native of central China's Hubei Province, committed their crimes in separate incidents in various parts of Beijing from November to December, 2001.
Li and Zhang each murdered one person and injured many others. Their illegal gains totalled 22,100 yuan. The two criminals were sentenced to death, deprived of political rights for their lifetime and had all personal possessions confiscated.
