Two men were sentenced to death by Shanghai No 1 Intermediate People's Court for murdering a police officer on February 8 in the city's Pudong New Area. Han Guitao and Liu Guixi attacked two policemen, one of whom died. Han's brother Han Guichen was sentenced to life imprisonment for being an accomplice to the murder. The attack happened on the afternoon of February 8 when two policemen rushed to Liu's rented flat after receiving a call that prostitutes were operating there. While helping the prostitutes escape, Han Guitao and Liu assaulted the two policemen with a brick and a fruit knife, leaving them seriously injured. Policeman Chen Weiguo, 45, died the following morning.
