Two women, Hoang Tu Lien, 43, and Tran Thi My Ha, 30, were sentenced to death at the end of a four-day trial in Vietnam's central province of Quang Nam.
They were found guilty of masterminding the transport and use of counterfeit money from southern China, a clerk at the Quang Nam People's Court said.
The pair trafficked fake Vietnamese bills worth nearly 90,000 dollars between March 2001 and May 2002 and used the fake currency to make purchases totalling 40,000 dollars.
Nguyen The Luong, a trader in Lang Son province, which borders China's Guangxi province, was handed a life sentence for his involvement in the network, while 14 other defendants were jailed for between four and 20 years.
