The Sharia Court of Sharjah (United Arab Emirates) released a Ukrainian citizen convicted of murder and sentenced to death, according to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's information policy department.
The Ukrainian was found guilty of murder in the UAE in 2002.
"During the process of appeal, the court took note of the fact that the convicted had paid compensation to the victim's family, who pardoned him; has had positive feedback from a detention center, and the Ukrainian Embassy in the UAE and the Consulate of Ukraine in Dubai have taken measures in past years to release him," the department said.
Now local authorities are to decide whether the Ukrainian citizen will be permitted to stay and work in the UAE or if he will be deported from that country.
