Uganda Chief Justice, Justice Benjamin Joses Odoki while addressing the press and lawyers at Ikeja High Court, gave a detailed description of the Ugandan judiciary.
He lamented that there is the problem of prison congestion, red-tapism, under-staffing, outdated laws and inefficiency on the part of the lawyers. Odoki, said they are working round the clock to decongest the prisons and according to him, part of the measures to do this include removing death sentences which constitutes delay in justice.
"When a matter has to do with death sentence, it takes a longer time for judgement to be delivered on such issues, so some of the courts are made to do menial jobs", he said.
