the High Court in Kampala, Uganda, sentenced to death a Chinese National, Wang Nan, after convicting him of killing his uncle Kong Jishu in 2004. Justice Edmond Lugayizi convicted Nan, a 20-year-old man, for murder, saying the prosecution had proved the case against him beyond reasonable doubt.
"In essence the accused has not denied the fact that he killed the deceased. There is no doubt that he used a sharp knife to stab him in the stomach and a witness testified that he was actually sober when committing the crime."
"For the above reason, prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. The accused is therefore convicted of the offence of murder and accordingly sentenced to death", Lugayizi ruled.
Nan was accused of murdering Jisu at Wandegaya flats where the deceased lived on October 9, 2004. He was also charged with attempting to murder his cousin-brother Kong Yang.
