the Ugandan Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs is studying the recent Supreme Court ruling on the death sentence to decide on the way forward, state minister, Fred Ruhindi, said. The court on January 21 refused to outlaw the death penalty, but said the death warrant should be executed within three years of confirmation of sentence. It ruled that if this is not the case, the sentence would be commuted to life imprisonment.
