UGANDA: SOLDIER TO HANG FOR KILLING LOVER

the UPDF 4th division court martial in Amuru district in Uganda sentenced a UPDF soldier, Private Denis Omona, to death by hanging for murdering his girlfriend, Beatrice Akio, after he accused her of infecting him and his wife with HIV. The court heard that on the night of October 14, Pte Omona pulled Akio from the group she was dancing with and shot her dead. He then fled to his village at Ongako where he reported to the police unit. Omona fired three shots which damaged the victim's heart and liver. The judgment brought relief to hundreds of IDPs who had threatened to beat up Omona's relatives if the court set him free. Members of the fourth division court martial included Maj. Francis Byaruhanga, Maj. Christopher Bazaki, Lt. Y.K Mugarurwa, and Lt. Christine Nekesa.
