a soldier attached to the Presidential Guard Brigade (PGB) in Uganda was sentenced to death by hanging after he was found guilty of murder. The Second Division Court Martial chaired by Col. Eric Mukasa passed the sentence against Pte. Gershom Amanya for killing a civilian. The prosecution told the court in Mbarara that Amanya, a brigade driver, shot dead Jimmy Kigundu on September 16, after a quarrel at Queens's Plight Pub in Mbarara. Eyewitnesses said Kigundu was shot in the head at close range and died instantly. After the incident, Amanya fled to Kisozi farm in Wakiso district, where he was later arrested and handed over to Makenke army barracks in Mbarara.
