UN COMMITTEE SAYS EXECUTIONS IN BELARUS VIOLATE INTERNATIONAL OBLIGATIONS

the United Nations Human Rights Committee accused Belarus of violating its international agreements by executing two people while their cases were still under review by the committee. According to the statement, Oleg Grishkovtsov and Andrei Burdyko alleged that they were subjected to torture at the pre-trial investigation stage and did not receive a fair trial. The letter said that under the covenant: “The imposition of a death sentence after a trial that did not meet the requirements for a fair trial amounts to a violation of articles 14 and 6 of the covenant.”
