A Marshall County jury recommended death for Jessie Phillips, 32, black. A death penalty recommendation requires 10 votes in favor, but the 12 jurors were unanimous in their decision. Phillips shot and killed his wife, Erica Droze Phillips, on Feb. 27, 2009 when she was 8 weeks pregnant. District Judge Tim Riley will make the final decision on the sentence.
