A Houston County jury voted unanimously to recommend the death penalty for Jerry Jerome Smith, 39, black. He's convicted of killing Willie James Flournoy (40), Theresa Ann Helms (26) and David Lee Bennett (29). The 3 people were killed at a residence on Oct. 19, 1996, which police had described as a crack house. Smith had previously been convicted of capital murder in the killings and sentenced to death, but his death sentence was overturned twice (see Nov. 9, 2004, Jan. 5, 2005, Sept. 29, 2006 and Oct. 22, 2010). His case was in court this week for resentencing, and the jury recommended the death penalty.
