A Los Angeles County jury recommended a death sentence for Kevin Haley, 50, Black. Haley was found guilty in the June 25, 1984, killing of Laverne Stolzy and the Sept. 27, 1984, killing of Dolores Clement. Haley had already been sentenced to death in 1988 in the Clement murder, but in 2004 the California Supreme Court reversed the special circumstance allegations that legally underpinned his death sentence, prompting a retrial. Jurors this time found true the special circumstance allegations that Clement was murdered during the commission of rape, sodomy, robbery and burglary. Judge Kathleen Kennedy ordered Haley to return to court July 29, where he will be formally sentenced.
