A Riverside County jury today recommended the death penalty for Roman Gabriel Aldana, 22, hispanic. The same panel convicted Roman Gabriel Aldana for the Sept. 9, 2006 beating and stabbing of Kayla Lorrain Wood, 16, white. Aldana will be formally sentenced on July 9. Co-defendant Jose Alfredo Solorza, 18, (he was 15 at the time) was found guilty of 1st-degree murder, torture and arson and faces 25 years to life in prison when he is sentenced April 30. According to trial testimony, the defendants decided to kill Kayla because Aldana believed she was pregnant.
