A Los Angeles County jury has recommended the death penalty for Ruben Becerrada. Becerrada, 44, was convicted Sept. 29 of 1st-degree murder and kidnapping for the March 4, 2000, killing of his former girlfriend, Maria Arevalo. A prosecutor said Becerrada stabbed and strangled Arevalo because she was the only witness in a rape case against him. A judge has not set a sentencing date.
