USA - California. A Shasta County jury recommended the death penalty for Scott Paul Varner

A Shasta County jury unanimously recommended the death penalty for Scott Paul Varner. The same jury convicted Varner, 29, hispanic, in October of 1st-degree murder and other related charges in the Nov. 26, 2005 strangulation death of 35-year-old Jeanette Renee Mariedth. Varner is to have a sentencing date set on Jan. 21.
