USA - California. New trial for Paul Henderson
1 MIN READ
The California Supreme Court granted a new trial to Paul Henderson, sentenced to death in Riverside County in May 2001. The direct appeal process took the California courts 19 years to complete. The court ruled that Henderson’s conviction was tainted by statements obtained as a result of police questioning after he had invoked his right to counsel, in violation of the Fifth Amendment. Henderson, now 50, Black, was sentenced to death in Riverside County on May 25, 2001 in the murder of 71-year-old Reginald Baker and the attempted murder of Baker’s wife, Peggy, in an August 15, 1997 home-invasion robbery.
