Eric Kurt Patrick was sentenced to death by Circuit Court Judge Ilona Holmes. Patrick, 46, was convicted of first-degree murder in February for killing Steven Schumacher, 72, in September of 2005. On June 17 (see) a jury voted 7-5 in favor of the death penalty. Patrick said he broke into Schumacher's home with the intention of beating him to death because, he alleged, Schumacher had made a pass at him. Patrick, a convicted felon, confessed to killing him.
