The Florida Supreme Court vacated the death sentence for Dane Abdool because it was not unanimous. On February 25, 2008 (see) an Orange County jury recommended 10-2 that Abdool receive the death penalty for killing his ex-girlfriend by setting her on fire on Feb. 25, 2006. He was arrested after police say he admitted to killing Sookdeo. He told police the two got into an argument because he thought she was pregnant. Police say a preliminary investigation revealed no evidence of a pregnancy. Orange Circuit Court Judge Lisa Munyon sentenced Abdool to death on May 12, 2008 (see).
