Superior Court Judge John Goger sentenced De'Kelvin Martin, black, 36, to death for the Oct. 1, 2002 murder of his girlfriend's 12-year-old son and her grandparents in a fit of rage 7 years ago. The victims were: Savion Wright, and the child's great-grandparents, Travis Ivery, 83, and Ila Ivery, 77. A Fulton County jury voted for the death penalty on Feb. 6, and Georgia law requires the judge to follow the jury recommendation. Earlier this week the judge had subtly chastised Martin for rejecting the district attorney’s offer of life imprisonment without parole.
