Luke Williams was executed today. Williams, 56, white, was convicted of killing his 39-year-old wife, Linda Williams, and their 12-year-old son, an adopted orphan from El Salvador, Shaun, in June 1991. Authorities say he killed them, staging a car accident, in order to collect $525,000 in life insurance policies. Williams becomes the 1st condemned inmate to be put to death this year in South Carolina and the 41st overall since the state resumed capital punishment in 1985. Williams becomes the 15th condemned inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1151st overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.
