A Harris County jury sentenced Raymond DeLeon Martinez, 64, hispanic, to death for the third time. Martinez allegedly robbed and killed Herman Chavis, 40, the owner of a tavern in Houston, on July 13, 1983. Martinez’s lawyer tried to get a plea bargain for life in prison but he was unsuccessful. Martinez was convicted twice for the murder of Chavis but the convictions were overturned. This will be Raymond Martinez’s third death sentence. (see also Sept. 12, 2007)
