The Senate passed 23-14 a secrecy bill. SB 1393 would could keep the suppliers of the drugs used in executions secret, as well as all the components they mix to make the drug cocktail used in lethal injections. But the measure the Senate passed dropped a section of the original proposal, which would have exempted all information about how executions are conducted from the Freedom of Information Act or from discovery in court cases. The purpose of the measure is to authorize the Department of Corrections to contract with compounding pharmacies to obtain drugs for lethal injections. (see also Jan. 29).
