Vang Sao Ngan, 21, was sentenced to death by a court in the northern province of Ha Giang, Vietnam, for killing his pregnant fiancé and her mother after his lover refused to live with him. It was alleged that after staying with Ngan for four months, his fiancé decided to return to live with her mother after discovering she was two months pregnant. Ngan visited her mother's house on July 26, 2003, in a bid to persuade her to convince his fiancé to return. She declined to help, prompting Ngan to stab her in the stomach with a knife. His fiancé tried to intervene but was also stabbed in the gut, while her two sisters received stab wounds to their chests. Ngan's fiancé and her mother died before they could receive medical treatment, but the two sisters survived. Ngan fled into the forest after the attack but was arrested the following day, a court official said.
